Little guy.

I've had this dormant amaryllis bud sitting in its pot since I cut down the stem some time in February or March. I know/think that bulbs can be reused and just need a nice dark place in between seasons but can you leave them in their dirt? If it's outdoors then does it not work because if all the moisture?
No matter, I peeled away some of it's dry flaky layers the other day to find green!! I've been watering it since and I'm hopeful for more growth. My only concern is that it'll languish while I'm gone later this month so I'll have to find an accommodating neighbor to plant sit for me.

Do you have any bulb experience?

Oh...as of today, we are the proud new owners of a car seat! But we can't even figure out how to use it. Maybe reading the manual will help.

¡Buenas noches!

Not as hardy as their name suggests.

We safely arrived home, buoyed after a lovely weekend and happy to see out little dog.
But my poor mums!
Oh well, I'll nurse them back as best I can.
Here's to a good week to you all, newly wed or not!

Figured it out!

A while back I mentioned my theory on "fake cherry blossoms", trees that have these bright pink blossoms that look like cherry blossoms but that I am convinced are not. I think that the news would be buzzing about the first blossoms {they are a big deal here} if some had started to pop up all over the city and these "fakers" are all over the place.

And I figured it out.

After yesterday's snowfall, the Weather Gang had people tweeting pictures of snow around the district and someone had a beautiful picture of these bright pink blossoms draped with snow and the tweet mentioned DOGWOOD blooms.

AHA!

I figured it out.

These are Pink Dogwoods.

I can breathe easy now.

Evidence!

Here's what I was talking about yesterday.
Hopefully the amaryllis keeps shooting up and gives us some pretty blossoms soon.
Are you watching the State of the Union? We recorded it because we stopped focusing and started harassing the dog which means Bed Time.
Adieu!

Amaryllis by morning...

amaryllis on my mind.
Not a George Strait fan?
Well, you should be.

Moving on from the Country Western Music part of me.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Last year I wrote about how I love the Amaryllis.

And I still love it! No big surprise there.

At the beginning of December I was walking around Whole Foods {which I avoid like the plague because I always end up buying Stuff I Don't Need But That Looks Necessary but it is the closest grocery store within walking distance; womp womp} and I grabbed the cheaper of their Amaryllis options {take THAT man!}.

Then I got home and realized that I had to re-hydrate the soil, plant the bulb, and wait six to ten weeks {!}.

I was getting ready to go home to California/Arizona for three-plus weeks, though, so it didn't happen until yesterday.

The little compressed disc of soil was this size before.
And then it was filling a big mixing bowl.
And growing.
Mmmmm.
I had this flashback to an episode of "My Strange Addiction" where a woman is addicted to eating dirt. She'd go and buy bags of potting soil and pull the open bag up next to her as she'd watch TV {like a bag of chips} {gaggggggg}.
Having a bowlful of dirt really grossed me out but I had no other vessel in which to do this because I needed the pot empty to begin with. And you can bet that thing went straight into the dishwasher after it served its purpose.
Then I buried the bulb and began the waiting process.
Please check back in six to ten weeks to hopefully find this.
Are you enjoying some indoor bulbs this winter Reader?
